Salem man charged with hurting baby
Apr. 01, 2013
SALEM, Mass. (AP) — A Salem man is facing attempted murder and other charges after a 2-year-old girl is brought to the hospital with severe injuries.
Javier Claudio is being held pending a dangerousness hearing scheduled for Thursday following his arrest last week.
Police started investigating about two weeks ago when the girl's parents brought her to the hospital with serious bodily injuries.
Police tell The Salem News (http://bit.ly/10h6kTj ) that the baby had been staying with a friend of the parents, and the 28-year-old Claudio was that caretaker's ex-boyfriend.
Claudio is not a relative, police said, but was a "caretaker of the child at the time of the incident."
The baby has been released from the hospital.
