OCALA, Fla. (AP) — A former federal corrections officer in Florida has been sentenced to two years in prison for taking bribes in exchange for delivering drugs to an inmate.
A U.S. Department of Justice news release say 27-year-old Albert Harris was sentenced Thursday. He pleaded guilty to a bribery charge in November.
Harris was arrested last summer while working as a correctional officer in a penitentiary at the Coleman Federal Correctional Complex northwest of Orlando. Authorities say Harris started providing inmates contraband in exchange for cash payments in June.
Harris met with an undercover federal agent in August. Authorities say he accepted a $5,000 payment and agreed to deliver 200 strips of an opioid-like drug to an inmate.
