Shared sewage plant again proposed in Waterloo area
Jul. 26, 2017
WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) — Officials are taking another look at a more than 40-year-old proposal for Waterloo, Cedar Falls and other communities to share a single sewage plant.
A committee of the Iowa Northland Regional Council Governments is asking Waterloo and Cedar Falls to share the $75,000 cost of updating a 1973 engineering report. Their city councils have yet to vote on the request.
The regional council's Brian Schoon told the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier that "there's still relevance to that document" and that officials want to determine whether the concept is still feasible.
Both cities are facing costly upgrades to their sewage plants to meet federal and state environmental regulations.
