Infant Dies Awaiting Liver Transplant
Jun. 09, 1986
PHILADELPHIA (AP) _ A 6-month-old girl suffering from a rare liver disease died Sunday, a day after her parents issued an appeal for a donor organ.
Nicole Renee Foster, the only child of Douglas and Diane Foster of Collingswood, N.J., died at 7:30 p.m. Sunday of cardiac-respiratory failure at Children's Hospital, said hospital spokeswoman Laura Feragen.
The infant's parents issued the appeal Saturday after doctors said a transplant was the child's only hope for survival.
The baby suffered from a rare condition that created toxins in her body by preventing her from breaking down fats, Ms. Feragen said.
Doctors had hoped a new liver would allow Nicole Renee's body to cleanse itself of the toxins.
