NC State's Byrd out for year with knee injury
Oct. 15, 2013
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — North Carolina State says defensive back Jarvis Byrd will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury.
Coach Dave Doeren said Tuesday that the redshirt senior tore his anterior cruciate ligament during a loss at Wake Forest on Oct. 5, but did not specify which knee.
It's the third torn ACL in five years for Byrd.
He injured his right knee as a freshman against North Carolina in 2009, then he tore his left ACL during an informal workout before the 2011 season.
Byrd started the first five games at safety after moving from cornerback, and had 17 tackles.
Doeren called Byrd "a true champion" and says it's unfortunate that he has to undergo a third knee surgery.
