Apr. 19, 1991
HAPEVILLE, Ga. (AP) _ An engine cover fell off a Delta jet into a parking lot as the plane took off Thursday.
No injuries occurred.
The piece landed in a parking lot of a Ford Motor Co. plant near Hartsfield Atlanta International Airport.
Delta spokesman Neil Monroe said the part had covered a rear engine on the jet, Delta flight 1077 to Chattanooga, Tenn. The pilot didn't notice the eight-foot piece had dropped off. The plane landed safely in Chattanooga.
''The captain had no indication there was anything wrong,'' Monroe said.
The cover missed the nearest car by 25 feet.
It was not immediately known how many people were on the plane, a DC-9 that has a capacity of 90.
