LOS ANGELES (AP) — A man has been charged with murder following the death of a passenger who was stabbed aboard a Southern California transit bus.
Los Angeles County prosecutors on Wednesday charged 27-year-old Manuel Ortiz Jr. of Montebello with one count of murder and an allegation that he personally used a deadly weapon in the commission of the crime.
Ortiz is expected to be arraigned Thursday at the downtown Los Angeles courthouse, where prosecutors will request bail be set at more than $2 million.
Deputy District Attorney Christina Lutz says Ortiz is accused of stabbing the 23-year-old victim multiple times in the neck and head aboard a Montebello transit bus in East Los Angeles on April 9. The victim died weeks later at a hospital.
