MOUNT VERNON, Wash. (AP) — A Marysville man has been charged with vehicular homicide in connection with a crash Sunday that killed a Mount Vernon man.
The Skagit Valley Herald reports Daniel Mackenzie was being held on $250,000 bail at the Skagit County jail.
Court documents say Mackenzie told officers that he began speeding away from a Sedro-Woolley parking lot Sunday evening because he spotted vehicles he recognized as belonging to gang members.
Documents say Mackenzie believed the vehicles were chasing him, leading him to allegedly punch it through an intersection. Documents say he claimed he didn't see the other car until it was too late.
A 61-year-old male passenger was ejected from the other vehicle and died at the scene.
Documents say Mackenzie is accused of traveling at least 40 mph in a 25 mph zone.
