SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) — An elementary school in the Phoenix suburb of Scottsdale has been closed indefinitely following a blaze that tore through the campus.

Students at Navajo Elementary School attended class Thursday at Oak Academy — a campus about 3 miles (5 kilometers) from the Scottsdale public school — following the fire early Wednesday morning.

Fire officials say the fire damaged three classrooms, but firefighters were able to isolate the blaze to a storage room inside the school. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

School officials say smoke damage was found throughout the classroom building, prompting the school to close. The district is examining if classes can be held at another school district property.
