Jul. 18, 2017
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — One of two people charged in the death of a teenager gunned down while riding his bicycle in north Philadelphia in 2015 has been sentenced to 29 to 62 years in prison.
The Philadelphia Inquirer (http://bit.ly/2u5Hb2Z ) reports that 19-year-old Tyree Johnson pleaded guilty Monday to third-degree murder, conspiracy and a firearms charge.
Authorities said 16-year-old Saleem West and a 15-year-old friend were riding bikes in north Philadelphia in November 2015 when they were confronted by four or five youths and two of them opened fire.
West's friend testified that the shooting followed a street-corner dispute a few months earlier between West and Johnson's co-defendant, against whom prosecutors say Johnson won't be required to testify.
