WASHINGTON (AP) _ Army Secretary Thomas White indicated on Monday that he intends to testify as requested by the Senate Commerce Committee without invoking his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination.
White is scheduled to testify on Thursday about his role in Enron Corp. before its collapse. It would be his first appearance before Congress to discuss his former job as head of Enron Energy Services, a subsidiary.
White is under investigation for his contacts with former colleagues at Enron in the weeks before the company's collapse.
In response to news media inquiries, White said he intended to testify on Thursday without invoking the Fifth Amendment. He also said he had no plan to resign his post at the Army's top civilian official.
