MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) _ Bonzi Wells scored 34 points as Ball State upset 14th-ranked Mississippi 70-66 Saturday night in the championship game of the Cardinal Varsity Classic.

Wells scored 22 points in the second half when Ball State (5-1) overcame a 11-point deficit to record its 19th consecutive victory at University Arena. Wells also had nine rebounds and six steals.

Mississippi (4-1) was led by Ansu Sesay with 20 points.

The Rebels led 42-31 with 17:23 left following a layup by Keith Carter. The Cardinals rallied to tie it 51-51 on a layup by Duane Clemens, but two 3-pointers by Joezon Darby gave the Rebels a 57-51 advantage with 8:28 remaining.

Ball State responded with nine consecutive points for a 60-57 lead. Wells scored four points and Mitch Hankins had three during the run.

A jumper by Sesay gave Mississippi a 61-60 lead with 2:45 to play, but a basket by Charles Smith then put Ball State ahead to stay.
