Jaguars' Soward Suspended
Dec. 08, 2001
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) _ The Jacksonville Jaguars suspended receiver R. Jay Soward for one game Saturday for violating team rules, adding yet another chapter to his troubled career.
The Jaguars also placed starting linebacker T.J. Slaughter on injured reserve, ending his season.
Two weeks ago, Soward returned to Jacksonville's active roster after serving a 10-game suspension for violating the NFL's substance-abuse policy. But he did not play last week against Green Bay.
The second-year veteran has not played in any of Jacksonville's games this season.
Coach Tom Coughlin would not say what rule Soward had broken. Soward did not make the trip to Cincinnati for Jacksonville's game Sunday.
To fill the two roster spots, the Jaguars signed cornerback Damen Wheeler and receiver Micah Ross off their practice squad.
