Man sentenced to prison in friend's fatal shooting
Apr. 13, 2018
WATERBURY, Conn. (AP) — A Connecticut man has been sentenced to seven years in prison for what his lawyers say was the accidental fatal shooting of his friend.
The Republican-American reports that 20-year-old Jayron Lark, of Waterbury, was sentenced Thursday on a charge of first-degree manslaughter.
Police say Lark was sitting in the back seat of a car with a pistol in May 2017, trying to pull out its magazine, when the gun fired and struck 18-year-old Tariq Kendrick in the front passenger seat.
Kendrick died of a gunshot wound to the back.
Lark fled the scene and tossed the pistol. He eventually met with officers and led them to the weapon.
Lark's attorney calls the shooting a "very tragic accident" and says his client is "extremely remorseful."
