SHOW BITS: And the rains came

LOS ANGELES (AP) — It never rains in Southern California — until the Academy Awards.
With California in the midst of a drought, the rain poured down Sunday night as celebrities scurried across the red carpet and into the Dolby Theatre for the Oscar show.
Organizers were prepared for rain, enclosing the arrivals area and fan bleachers in a plastic tent. But they clearly didn't anticipate the intensity of the downpour, which quickly pooled water onto the suddenly leaking tent.
"This is entirely my fault. ... Sorry," best-actor nominee Eddie Redmayne joked of bringing the rainy weather from his native England. As it continued to pour, a team of tuxedoed men toting long sticks did their best to mop the water away. That created a small shower that rained down on TV reporters waiting for celebrity interviews.
The reporters and cameras were quickly covered with a blue plastic tarp while the men with the sticks stood watch.
