Yankees' Sanchez back on the DL...Indians recall Bieber...Orpik back with the Capitals

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — New York Yankees catcher Gary Sanchez has gone back on the 10-day disabled list because of a strained right groin, a day after failing to hustle on a pair of key plays in a 7-6 loss to Tampa Bay. Sanchez missed 20 games from June 25 to July 19 because of the groin injury.
CLEVELAND (AP) — Right-hander Shane Bieber has been recalled by Cleveland from Triple-A Columbus to start against Pittsburgh tonight. Infielder Yandy Diaz was optioned to Columbus to make room for Bieber, who is 5-1 with a 3.53 ERA in seven starts this season for the Indians. Left-hander Andrew Miller, who has been out since May 26 with right knee inflammation, was transferred to the 60-day disabled list. Miller is eligible to be activated tomorrow and is on a minor league injury rehabilitation assignment at Double-Akron.
WASHINGTON (AP) — The Capitals are bringing back 37-year-old defenseman Brooks Orpik, a leader on Washington's Stanley Cup-winning team. Orpik has signed a $1 million, one-year contract with $500,000 in performance bonuses. General manager Brian MacLellan announced the move Tuesday, about a month after trading Orpik to Colorado to clear salary-cap space. Orpik has spent the past four seasons in Washington.
LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Los Angeles Lakers have re-signed forward Travis Wear to a two-way contract. Wear played 17 games for the Lakers last season, averaging 4.4 points and 2.2 rebounds per game. He also appeared in 29 games for their G League affiliate, scoring 16.7 points per game for the South Bay Lakers.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The Tennessee Titans are releasing outside linebacker Kevin Dodd. It's an unceremonious finish for a former second-round pick who never came close to living up this draft position. Dodd was the 33rd overall pick in the 2016 draft.
