SALT LAKE CITY (AP) _ Guard Janeth Arcain picked up a wayward rebound and sank a 16-foot jumper with one second to play, lifting the Houston Comets to a 73-71 WNBA victory over the Utah Starzz on Saturday night.

Utah tied the game with nine seconds to play as rookie point guard Stacy Frese swished a 3-pointer. But after a Houston timeout, Arcain converted Cynthia Cooper's missed driving layup into a game-winner.

Sheryl Swoopes led Houston (6-1) with 22 points, nearly three shy of her 24.8-point average, second-highest in the league. Tina Thompson added 18 points and four blocks, while holding Olympian Natalie Williams in check.

Williams led Utah with 17 points and nine rebounds, but scored just 13 while playing against Thompson. Adrienne Goodson added 15 points for the Starzz.

Utah (3-3) is 1-12 against the Comets in four seasons.

Utah held a 35-26 rebounding advantage and rallied from a 12-point first-half deficit to go up 64-58 in the second half, when there were six lead changes. But the Starzz's 18 turnovers, six by Williams led to 15 Comets points.

The teams meet again Monday night in Houston.
