Sony Rehires Former TV Chief
Sep. 10, 1999
LOS ANGELES (AP) _ Sony Pictures Entertainment has rehired its former TV chief Mel Harris as a co-president and chief operating officer to oversee television under studio head John Calley.
Harris, who left Sony in 1995 after his contract negotiations stalled, returns Sept. 15, sharing his role with Bob Wynne and the newly promoted Masayuki ``Yuki'' Nozoe, who will serve as co-president for digital entertainment.
``Mel Harris' return to Sony Pictures Entertainment reflects our commitment to accelerate SPE's initiatives in digital video and the new forms of entertainment it will generate in the 21st century,'' Sony chairman Howard Stringer said Thursday.
The appointment leaves the future of Jon Feltheimer, president of Sony's Columbia TriStar Television Group who now reports to Harris, up in the air. Feltheimer's contract expires in February and he has been negotiating a new pact.
Feltheimer, who refused comment, was expected to leave as a result of the Harris hiring, company sources speaking on condition of anonymity told the Los Angeles Times and Daily Variety.
