'Backstreet' Life Frazzled Ford
Mar. 13, 2001
NEW YORK (AP) _ Dating a Backstreet Boy isn't all glamour and jet-setting.
Just ask Willa Ford, a 20-year-old singer and former girlfriend of Nick Carter who was one of the opening acts during the boy band's 1999 United States tour.
``Backstreet (mania) freaked me out,'' Ford says in the April issue of Teen People magazine. She and Carter broke up in October. ``I saw signs like `Die (Willa),' It was scary.''
Such negative attention didn't keep her from going after her dream of a singing career, though. The debut album from the Ruskin, Fla., native is expected to come out in July.
``I've been working at this my whole life,'' says Ford, whose full name is Amanda Williford. ``Getting here is a mix of talent, luck and God.''
