NEW YORK (AP) _ Jorge Posada of the Yankees will receive the Thurman Munson Award on Feb. 6, a benefit aimed at helping those with developmental disabilities.

The Yankees catcher will be honored for his baseball accomplishments and his philanthropic work in New York.

He enjoyed his finest season in the majors last year, hitting .287 with 28 homers and 86 RBIs as the Yankees won their third straight World Series title. He was picked for the AL All-Star team.

The award, presented by the Association for the Help of Retarded Children, is named for the Yankee catcher, who died in a plane crash in 1979.

Previous recipients include Muhammad Ali, Arthur Ashe, Willie Mays and Yogi Berra.
