GILBERT, Ariz. (AP) — A Gilbert man has been arrested on suspicion of child abuse after his infant son was diagnosed with seven broken ribs and a lacerated liver.
Gilbert police say 36-year-old Nathan Clapp was taken into custody Tuesday. He didn't have an attorney at his initial court appearance.
According to court documents, police were alerted by hospital officials that Clapp's 3-month old boy had broken ribs that were caused by "an intense squeezing of the chest."
Police say Clapp told them he either fell while holding the child or may have rolled over on the baby by accident.
But police say they extracted data from Clapp's cellphone that allegedly showed he was frustrated with the boy's crying.
