Police Charge Woman With Lying About Rape At Alabama Concert
Jul. 26, 1986
WEEDSPORT, N.Y. (AP) _ A 21-year-old woman who claimed she was raped three rows from the stage during a concert by the country rock band Alabama was charged Friday with lying to police, authorities said.
The woman was charged with third-degree falsely reporting an incident, a misdemeanor, state police said. She was told to appear in Brutus Town Court on July 29, said state police dispatcher Donna Onorati.
Police would not say if the woman admitted that she lied or if the investigation led to the charge.
She told authorities a man forced her to the ground and raped her during the concert Tuesday at the Weedsport Speedway.
''I knew it was impossible,'' said Glenn A. Donnelly, manager of the speedway, about 20 miles west of Syracuse.
''You couldn't do this in front of 10,000 people, especially a group that was here for Alabama,'' Donnelly said. ''The average age of people at the concert was 30 years old ... people who would never stand for anything like that.''
Donnelly's daughter Cathy said Thursday that she saw the woman lunge at a man who then ''slapped her around a couple of times, but did not rape her.''
