INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Vaughn D. Bryson, ousted in June as chief executive officer of Eli Lilly and Co., has resigned from the company's board of directors and has accepted an undisclosed severance package.

Randall L. Tobias, former vice chairman of American Telephone & Telegraph Co., succeeded Bryson as CEO of Lilly.

Bryson still owns 178,180 shares of the Indianapolis-based drug company's stock, according to Lilly's most recent proxy statement.
