ST. LOUIS (AP) _ Mark McGwire hit his 57th home run Sunday, remaining four off the pace of major league leader Sammy Sosa.

McGwire hit a 1-2 fastball from Houston Astros right-hander Chris Holt over the center-field wall, a two-run shot that put the St. Louis Cardinals ahead 2-1 in the fourth inning. It was the second homer in three games and 514th overall for McGwire, who hit a grand slam Friday night.

Sosa hit his 61st earlier Sunday for the Chicago Cubs. On Saturday, Sosa became the first player to hit 60 homers in consecutive seasons.

McGwire and Sosa are tied over the last two years at 127 homers.
