LOS ANGELES (AP) _ Chris Tucker was in no rush to do another movie after 1998's ``Rush Hour.''

It took three years for Tucker to finally say ``yes'' to a sequel.

He's glad he waited. He says many actors rush into their next project because they're afraid their career will disappear.

``I'm glad I was patient and just slowed down because a lot of people ... they're afraid that everything is going to end but you really control that,'' he said. ``I really want to make a statement. I want to make good movies. I want to do real-life stories. ... Do movies about history.''

Tucker says he believes his career is just now starting.

Once again directed by Brett Ratner, ``Rush Hour 2,'' also starring Jackie Chan, opens Friday.
