PORTSMOUTH, Va. (AP) — Officials say a worker at Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Virginia was injured aboard a submarine.
News outlets report shipyard spokeswoman Terri K. Davis said in a news release that assistant shift test engineer Colleen M. Sheehy was transiting a hatch aboard the USS San Francisco when she was injured around 9 a.m. Tuesday.
Officials say she was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital and was in critical condition.
According to Davis, the San Francisco has been in the shipyard since January 2017 and is in the process of being converted into a moored training ship.
The cause of the injury is being investigated. Officials say all notifications have been completed, including those to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
