Detroit woman gets 9-20 years in death of newborn daughter

DETROIT (AP) — A Detroit woman has been sentenced to 9 to 20 years in prison for the death of her newborn daughter whose body was stashed in a trash bag outside her home.
WDIV-TV reports Glencetta Gloster-Washington learned her punishment Thursday after earlier pleading guilty to second-degree murder. Gloster-Washington, who has five other children, told the court she's "sorry for everything that happened."
She was originally charged with first-degree murder and concealing the death of the child. Her lawyer asked the court for leniency.
Relatives took Gloster-Washington to a hospital in March 2017 after they discovered her bleeding and unresponsive. An exam showed that she had recently given birth. Police later went to her home on the city's east side and found the baby's body in a trash can.
