SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) — Irad Ortiz Jr. became the first jockey in nearly two years to ride five winners on a single program Sunday at Saratoga Race Course.

Two-time defending meet champion Javier Castellano was the last jockey to ride five winners at Saratoga, on Sept. 2, 2013. It was the fourth career five-win day for Ortiz and first since Nov. 15, 2013.

The 23-year-old won with five of his nine mounts Sunday, starting with Andalusite in the opener. He followed with Drama King in the third, Unbridled Daddy in the fourth, Fundamental in the seventh and Ack Naughty in the eighth.

Through 21 of 40 racing days, Ortiz leads Castellano, 34-27, in the jockey standings. The leading rider in New York last year with 278 victories, Ortiz is seeking his fifth career meet title and first at Saratoga.
