RICHMOND, Va. (AP) _ A federal appeals court Friday refused to let an Atlanta salvage company sell artifacts recovered from the wreck of the Titanic.
In a 3-0 ruling, a panel of the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a decision by a lower-court judge in Norfolk and said that R.M.S. Titanic Inc. does not have title to the artifacts taken from the bottom of the sea.
The ruling came three days before the 90th anniversary of the sinking of the luxury liner. The ship went down in the North Atlantic in 1912 on its maiden voyage after hitting an iceberg. About 1,500 people died.
