Man convicted of murder in Ipswich restaurant slaying
Feb. 26, 2016
SALEM, Mass. (AP) — A Massachusetts jury has convicted a New York man of murder in the killing of a popular Ipswich restaurant owner during a robbery attempt.
Cheng Sun of the Bronx, New York, was found guilty Thursday in Salem of first-degree murder in the September 2011 death of 62-year-old Shui Keung "Tony" Woo inside the Majestic Dragon restaurant.
The 51-year-old Sun is scheduled for sentencing on Monday.
Prosecutors said Sun and two other men intended to rob the restaurant. Woo, after a long day, often slept in the restaurant rather than driving home to Quincy.
Authorities said Woo was bludgeoned, stabbed and tied up in an attempt to get him to disclose the combination of the safe, but ultimately the suspects left empty-handed.
Sun's attorney declined to comment on the verdict.
