JOHANNESBURG (AP) — Keryn Jordan, a former Auckland City striker who played in two FIFA Club World Cups, died Monday after battling cancer, the South African Football Association said. He was 37.
The Pretoria-born Jordan made two appearances for South Africa's national team before moving to New Zealand, where he was a prolific striker for Waitakere United and then Auckland, scoring 61 goals in 79 league games for the latter.
South Africa coach Gordon Igesund sent Jordan a message last week and said he remembered the forward when he was a teenage player and Igesund the coach at Durban-based club Manning Rangers.
Igesund says "football is often described as the beautiful game and during his playing days Keryn contributed to this beauty."
