PIEDMONT, S.C. (AP) — Vandals have damaged two churches in northwestern South Carolina.
Greenville County sheriff's deputies told local media that the Bessie Road Baptist Church near Piedmont was hit early Sunday morning. Investigators said two wooden crosses donated to the church three years ago had been cut down.
Church secretary Dolores Alexander said the crosses were put back up Tuesday.
Deputies said Joy Fellowship was also hit by vandals sometime between Sunday morning and Monday morning. Investigators say someone spray-painted Spanish words that translated to "we will overcome for the devil."
Sheriff's Sgt. Ryan Flood said authorities are investigating the vandalism as two separate incidents. No arrests have been made.
