ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) _ Toronto second baseman Homer Bush, who missed the final two months of last season with a hand injury, was placed on the 15-day disabled list Thursday because of ligament damage in his left thumb.

Bush was injured during the ninth inning of Wednesday night's 11-8 victory over Tampa Bay when he made a diving stop on Fred McGriff's infield single.

Rookie infielder Cesar Izturis was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse to fill the roster opening. Another rookie, Ryan Freel, started at second base Thursday against the Devil Rays.

Bush hit .215 in 76 games last season, sitting out the final two months after being struck in the left hand by a pitch July 30.
