Minnesota advanced to the second round of the playoffs for the first time Friday night, beating Denver 102-91 in Game 5. The Timberwolves ended an NBA-record streak of seven straight first-round losses. They will face Sacramento in the Western Conference semifinals.

Miami won its 15th consecutive home game with an 87-83 victory over New Orleans on Friday night. The Heat lead the Hornets 3-2, with the home team winning all five games.
