BALTIMORE (AP) — Baltimore police are investigating a collision in which a minivan hit a pedestrian near a downtown courthouse.

Police spokesman T.J. Smith says the van driver and the pedestrian "both were parties in a civil case" and appeared in court just before the crash Friday. He says police are investigating whether the driver intentionally struck the pedestrian.

Smith says the van struck the man about 3 p.m. Friday just outside the courthouse. A car was also involved, and the pedestrian was pinned beneath one of the vehicles after the crash just outside Baltimore General District Court. The 52-year-old man was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.

The van driver remained at the scene. Police took him into custody, but had not charged anyone Friday evening.
