CHICAGO (AP) _ Keir Rogers, Loyola women's basketball coach, resigned Saturday, seven games into his second season.

``I am very surprised by Keir's decision to resign,'' director of intercollegiate athletics Chuck Schwarz said. ``He believes that this is the right thing to do for both his family and himself. We are very pleased with the job Keir did during his short tenure.''

Loyola is 2-5 this season, after going 3-23 last season.

Assistant Jasmine Strange was made interim head coach for the rest of the season.
