HAMPTON, N.J. (AP) _ Celldex Therapeutics Inc. (CLDX) on Wednesday reported a loss of $16.4 million in its second quarter.

On a per-share basis, the Hampton, New Jersey-based company said it had a loss of 11 cents.

The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of three analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of 14 cents per share.

The biopharmaceutical company posted revenue of $2.8 million in the period.

In the final minutes of trading on Wednesday, the company's shares hit 48 cents. A year ago, they were trading at $2.56.
