CHICAGO (AP) _ Magic North, ridden by Kerwin Clark, took the lead turning into the stretch to take an easy six-length victory Saturday in the $53,500 Illinois Coronet Handicap at Hawthorne Race Course.

The winning 3-year-old colt ran the 1 1-16-mile race over a fast track in one minute and 43 seconds before a crowd of 8,763. The horse has now captured four races this year, all of them in stakes competition. His career bankroll went over $230,000 with the $32,000 he won in Saturday's race.

Magic North, owned by Talmadge and Carolyn Tribble of North Brook, Ill., returned $12.20, $9, and $3.80.

Big Bobcat, a 7-1 shot in the field of eight Illinois-registered 3-year- olds and older, finished second and paid $10.20 and $4 on $2. Harham's Sizzler, the even-money favorite, finished third and paid $2.40.
