NEW YORK (AP) _ Billy Crystal once wanted to be Mickey Mantle. Now, at least, he's got the glove.

Crystal bought one of Mantle's old gloves at a Sotheby's auction of baseball memorabilia Monday for $239,000, far exceeding its pre-sale estimate of $10,000 to $20,000.

The Yankees legend wore the glove around 1960.

At an unveiling of a red granite monument to honor Mantle in 1996, Crystal recalled how as a 9-year-old boy in 1956 he watched in awe as Mantle blasted a home run off the right-field facade at Yankee Stadium.

``That day,'' Crystal said, ``I knew I wanted to play baseball. I wanted to be Mickey Mantle.''

Mantle died in 1995.
