HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (AP) _ Linebacker Dwayne Gordon re-signed with the New York Jets on Thursday after spending the last four seasons with the team.
The 31-year-old Gordon became a free agent after the 2000 season. When the Jets came up short at middle linebacker, they turned to Gordon. The Jets have only one veteran, Doug Colman, as a backup to Marvin Jones, and Colman has been sidelined with a strained quadriceps.
A strong special teams player, Gordon generally was a backup for New York. In 1998, when the Jets went to the AFC championship game, he saw plenty of playing time because Jones missed the season with a torn knee ligament.
Gordon also played two seasons for Atlanta and two for San Diego.
