Utah Jazz Re-Sign Jarron Collins
Jul. 23, 2004
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) _ Free agent Jarron Collins re-signed with the Utah Jazz on Friday.
The 6-foot-11 center has spent all three of his NBA seasons in Utah, which picked him in the second round in 2001 out of Stanford.
Collins has started 103 of the 176 games he's played for the Jazz. He missed much of his second season with a knee injury, but came back last season and took over the starting job when Greg Ostertag struggled with inconsistency down the stretch.
Ostertag, who spent nine seasons with Utah, agreed to a deal with Sacramento earlier this week.
Collins has career averages of 6.1 points and 3.9 rebounds and likely completes the Jazz's offseason moves for forwards and centers.
The Jazz still must wait before officially adding restricted free agents Carlos Boozer and Mehmet Okur until July 30, when their former teams' chance to match Utah's offer sheets expires. Cleveland has said it will not try to keep Boozer after a bitter dispute over whether he gave the Cavaliers a verbal commitment to stay.
Detroit has added Antonio McDyess and re-signed Rasheed Wallace in the offseason, and couldn't afford to keep Okur, too.
