2 teen girls killed while trying to cross street to carnival

DAVIE, Fla. (AP) — Authorities say two teenage girls are dead after darting into traffic across from a school carnival and getting hit by a car.
The Sun Sentinel reports that 15-year-old Alicia Cerrato and 14-year-old Andrea De Las Salas were critically injured Friday evening near St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Davie. Police announced their deaths Wednesday.
A police spokesman says the girls were apparently trying to get to the carnival when they were hit. They were not at a crosswalk.
The 18-year-old man who hit the girls stayed at the scene and isn't likely to face charges. Investigators don't think alcohol or speed was a factor.
