McDonald's Menu Management Head Leaving
Aug. 04, 2003
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) _ McDonald's Corp.'s head of global menu management and new concept development is leaving, the company said Monday.
A memorandum to the staff announcing executive vice president Thomas C. Ryan's departure said he will join Quizno's Subs. His position at the Denver-based sandwich chain couldn't immediately be determined.
Ryan, who holds a Ph.D. in flavor and fragrance chemistry, was instrumental in such innovations as the New Tastes menu, breakfast bagel sandwiches and thicker shakes during his six years at the company.
Larry Devries will take responsibility for McDonald's concept development work while John Sanfacon will continue to lead its worldwide menu management team, the memo said.
In 2001, Oak Brook, Ill.-based McDonald's named Ryan temporary head of its U.S. marketing effort, although he had little marketing experience at the time.
