WILMINGTON, N.C. (AP) — Authorities say an Uber driver faces charges of videotaping himself having sex with an intoxicated woman he picked up for a ride.
The New Hanover County Sheriff's Office tells local media that 72-year-old Gerald William Smelson is charged with felony peeping.
Lt. Jerry Brewer says Smelson picked up two 19-year-old, heavily intoxicated women in Wrightsville Beach on Jan. 7 for a ride. When they arrived at the destination, Brewer says one woman went into the house but the other fell to the ground.
He says Smelson put her back in the car and drove her to his house, where he had sex with her. He says Smelson has turned over a video.
Smelson tells WECT-TV that he denies the charge.
Uber says it has removed Smelson's driving privileges.
