SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A 51-year-old Utah man who may have been suffering from mental health issues has been arrested as a suspect in the killing of his elderly parents in suburban Salt Lake City.
Salt Lake City police say Robert Liddiard was apprehended at about 8:30 p.m. Saturday in a vehicle outside a home in Millcreek.
His parents had been found dead about three hours earlier in their home in Holladay. They were identified as 85-year-old Robert and 78-year-old Diane Liddiard.
Few details have been released but police say they are treating it as a homicide.
Unified police said on Twitter that Liddiard's family wanted to note that he had been "battling serious mental health issues for quite some time." It's not clear if he has a lawyer or will be appointed one at a pending court appearance.
