CHONAN, Japan (AP) _ Defending champion Laura Davies fired the day's best round, a bogey-free 70, to take a two-shot lead today heading into the final round of the Itoen Ladies tournament.

Davies, starting the day one stroke off the pace, carded two bogeys on the first three holes for a 3-under par 141 over the 6,440-yard, par-72 Great Island Club course.

First-round leader Ko Woo-Soon of South Korea slipped to second place after a 73, and is tied with Tatsuko Morimoto at 143.

Mayumi Hirase, who leads Japan LPGA's money list, shot a 72 and is tied with Hiromi Takamura at 144.

LPGA Tour regular Hiromi Kobayashi had a 73 for a two-day total 149.
