Georgia Tech Hires AD From LSU
Feb. 22, 2006
ATLANTA (AP) _ Dan Radakovich was hired as Georgia Tech's athletic director Wednesday after spending the last four years as the top aide to LSU's athletic director.
He signed a five-year contract and will replace Dave Braine, who resigned Jan. 11 after nine years. Radakovich begins his new job April 1.
``He brings a unique combination of enthusiasm for sports, concern for the student, experience in athletic administration, business experience and communication skills that are needed in today's complex world of intercollegiate athletics,'' Georgia Tech president Wayne Clough said.
Radakovich, an administrator in college sports for more than 19 years, was the senior associate athletic director at LSU under Skip Bertman. Auburn interviewed Radakovich for its AD vacancy in 2004 and South Carolina did the same last year.
``He oversaw budgets, did football scheduling, oversaw maintenance,'' Bertman said. ``His job included a little bit of everybody's job. That's what made him so knowledgeable and that's what will make him so valuable to Georgia Tech.''
