Holyfield Gets Divorce Settlement
Mar. 10, 2000
ATLANTA (AP) _ Former heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield agreed Friday to end his four-year marriage to Janice Holyfield.
Settlement terms are confidential but court papers indicate Holyfield's estate is worth more than $90 million. The boxer filed for divorce from his wife, Janice, last March.
``Janice is very pleased to have this ordeal behind her,'' said John Mayoue, the lawyer who represented the fighter's wife.
The boxer has nine children, including two born to other women since the couple married in 1996. Mayoue did not know who was awarded custody of the couple's only child, 18-month-old Elijah.
Attempts to contact Holyfield lawyer Barry McGough on Friday were unsuccessful.
