43 Killed in India Bus Accident

NEW DELHI, India (AP) _ A crowded bus plunged off a bridge into a river in eastern India today, killing at least 43 people, a news agency reported.
Police said the accident occurred as the driver tried to pass another vehicle on the bridge over the Mahanadi River, Press Trust of India reported. It took place near Cuttack, 750 miles southeast of New Delhi.
Divers were searching for people who may have been trapped in the bus underwater. Witnesses said 90 people were on the bus.
Forty-three bodies were recovered and more than 30 injured passengers were being treated at a hospital, the report said.
