Parents group wants officer in every school in district

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Parents in one South Carolina school district are calling on officials to place a police officer in every school in the district after the latest school shooting in Florida.
The Richland 2 Black Parents Association said in a news release Tuesday that every school in the district needs a school resource officer. The parents point out the northeast Columbia school district has officers in its high schools, but not in its elementary schools.
They note the other two school districts in Richland County have an officer into each school.
District Two Superintendent Baron Davis says the district has a procedure to ensure officers can quickly get to those schools that do not have an assigned officer. Davis says the school also conducts shooter drills twice each year.
